Revenge vs. Appeasement ~
Revenge and Appeasement are to causes of World War 1 and a little bit of World War 2. The definition of revenge is simply that it is something people do to get back at somebody. One example, from World War 1 is the Treaty of Versailles. That was a type of revenge from the Britain and French, to the Germans because the Germans were on the losing side. On the Treaty of Versailles it listed things that the Germans could not do, and all of them were related to the causes of World War 1. The British did that so that another war would not happen, at least not for those reasons. The definition for appeasement is that it is a relieve or satisfy (a demand of feeling), meaning that it something somebody does to another in relief or satisfaction. It can be very similar to what revenge is.
Appeasement was a cause of the 2 world war, this is because the British and the French hadn't done anything to Hitler when he was breaking the laws on the Treaty of Versailles. They simply told him to stop, but did not take any action until Hitler really broke out and started taking over more countries. They started by doing nothing when Hitler began building his troops, and building the A.F. navy. Then, Hitler and his troops had marched into Rhineland, declaring that he wanted land. He then made an alliance with Italy and Japan in 1937. Lastly, before British and French decided to do something, Hitler had an anshluss with Austria, meaning that he had people vote on if they think Austria should be able to have their own government. An example of appeasement through world war 2 is that when Hitler tried to take over Germany, the British and French said that he was not allowed to do that, and took action. They told Hitler that if he continues taking over more countries/land, they will have to go to war against him. But Hitler does not stop breaking laws on the Treaty of Versailles. He begins to march into Czechoslovakia, after promising Britain and France that he would not continue breaking the laws, and taking over more land (including Germany). They again told him that if he shall continue breaking the laws on the Treaty of Versailles that they would have to go to war. Of course, Hitler does not listen and 6 months later him and his men take over Poland. So the British and the French told him that that was his final chance and that they were going to war against him.
The world war 2 was mainly caused by Hitler, but at the same time it could have been because of the British and the French since at the beginning of the time, they did not do anything about what Hitler was trying to do (take over land, killing Jews). They said stop, and did not take any more actions than that.
